I Disagree With Agreeable Gray!

There. I said it. The agreeable gray that had all interiors in a chokehold is now making an exit and I am letting out a huge sigh of relief! To me, gray had always given a very cold, doctor's office type vibe to homes. I am packing its bags and calling an Uber! Don't panic! If you chose a shade of gray for all of your interiors in 2020 when you were DIY'ing like the rest of us, there is still hope. The pendulum swings and your love for a fifty shades of gray home may come back around. In addition, like what you like and give a big "whatever" to all the gray interior haters (that would be me).

Vogue recently asked 13 interior designers what is in for 2023 and guess what? Gray didn't make the list, but earth tones did! Modern farmhouse with all of its crispiness and coolness is out the door. Much warmer tones are making a big entrance in homes and there are so many reasons why. To be clear, as previously mentioned, the pendulum swings. I don't think an interior color can truly be "in" or "out", but I do think, like fashion, it comes and goes at the right time. Just as it is getting over-saturated, we are met with an old friend or new acquaintance.
Earth tones provide a much richer, warmer and inviting experience in homes. Instead of being met with a cold presence, you are met with a hug. Okay... so it may be unsurprising to you that cool tones are leaving to make room for all the warmer colors, but what may be surprising is the incorporation of reds. From crimson and rusty reds to shades of terracotta, interior designers are seeing more of it. Some interior designers even mentioned the prevalence of moody pinks!
Now, I'm not sure I will be painting my walls rusty red anytime soon, but these colors don't just belong on the walls. Incorporating earth tones can come from countertops/granite, flooring, hardware, tile, rugs. Not to mention, pillows, throws, decor, furnitures and LIGHTBULBS can also warm up the space even further. Yes, warm/amber bulbs can add a lot to a space, especially if your goal is to warm up the room. Lighting matters!
Until next time,
Madison
