Ooooh.... look at that. Look at that sexy, scrumptious, jaw-dropping.... curb appeal. You never have this conversation in your head when you are passing by a scrum-dilly-umptious house with the ultimate curb appeal? Don't break my heart and tell me I'm alone in this!
Curb appeal doesn't just bring smiles to home owner's faces! It really can add to the energy of the neighborhood, make the house more marketable & make your house give a GRAND first impression to anyone who walks its way. Do you think I am just going to talk about how you need to run to your local Lowe's and plant some bold Geraniums in your flower beds? WRONGO. Although Geraniums are a rather dashing choice, I'm bringing much more to this blog than that. Come on. Ye of little faith. Stick around and find out how to turn drab into fab! Enough chit chat, let's dive into how to be the best on the block!

10 ways to pump up that curb appeal & be the best on the block, baby!
Bring some style to thunderstorms: Gutters
Rain, rain go away & slip on down those newly installed copper gutters! You may tend to neglect these little systems on your house, but gutters need not be neglected! Not only do they provide an important function to your house, they can also add to your home's overall appeal. Although copper gutters are pricey, the cost shows in the quality and ultimate appeal when driving by. Yes, you will make all your neighbors jealous if you get copper gutters installed. Yes, you may suffer from PHS (pretty house syndrome) and get tired of the constant compliments, but no, you will never regret it. Now, if your budget is challenged like mine (hehe), copper gutters may be out of the conversation... or so you thought! Faux copper gutters are actually increasing in popularity. While I cannot stand behind the quality, there are alternative options out there to achieve the same look. Copper gutter DUUUPE, if you will.
Shine like the top of the Chrysler Building- Exterior Lighting
It will not be a hard knock life with some new exterior lighting! Some outdoor lighting can really set the vibes for your home. By just adding some soft lighting to accent your impressive tree in your front yard or to light up your exquisite walk way, you will be the talk of the block! I love outdoor lighting. It is so versatile and has the ability to show off unique features of the home. Not only do I feel like it adds to safety by lighting up the outside, it makes houses look impressive at night. Don't let your curb appeal have a night off! NO DAYS OFF in this house... you better work, curb appeal.
Your beds need a facial!
I'm not going to tell you to go to Lowe's and get Geraniums... but... Go to Lowe's and get Geraniums. Kidding. You do not need to do that! Sometimes the beds just need a little refresh! When my beds are looking a little sad, it's time for a facial. We don't have to do any laser peels or get too invasive. We just need a light facial! My facial typically includes some new mulch or gravel (depending on what I have going on), a little weed pulling/killing & possibly a new plant or two (because I can never help myself). You may be looking at your beds and thinking you need a little more than a facial. If that is the case, start planning out the design of your beds. Before I plant or create a new bed, I always sketch it out to make sure I have all the plants in the perfect home (tall in the back, shade lovers in the shade, etc.). You could also add, window planter boxes to give your house some charm, fun pots for an instant change & hanging baskets for some dimension on the porch!
Have ya thought about some shutters?
This project is a little bit bigger, but the unique layers make a difference. If you have shutters, is it time for a color change? If you don't, have you thought about it? For something that is low maintenance and typically durable, it could change the entire appeal of your home. Of course, it depends on what your house looks like to make the decision on which shutters to choose. My parent's had old beaten up wooden ones on their last house and it was incredible (patina and aged looking)! We added some to a rent house not too long ago and they were straight-top louvered shutters. Both of the shutter choices matched the personality of the house and elevated the look!
Small hardware making a big difference
How is your home's address number displayed? Have you checked on your mailbox? How is he hanging in there? What about your poor doorknob? All things that can be changed out/upgraded to add to the curb appeal. These small hardware changes do make a difference! Just like shutters, the choices may depend on the personality of the home. Outdated or mismatched hardware may be dimming the star your houses really is!
Well, that was fun! I hope this did more than add to your to-do list. I hope you found a chuckle or two in between the "honey-do" list you are creating for ole hubs. Sorry hubs... it ain't easy being the best on the block, baby!
